Buying a Mirrorless Camera
Most of us are used to using a certain type of camera, the most common is smartphone camera. Starting from those older models where the camera extension needs to be attached into your phone’s body to now smartphone cameras can shoot mesmerizing footage from a very compact device, there have been decades where digital cameras also shift towards a new destination. No matter what it is in the future, we are striving for better and seeking ways to capture better pictures or video with more reliable devices.
In the past the professional and enthusiast market was all about DSLR but today mirrorless is the prominent new cameras released by manufacturers. Trend always changes and it is normal to follow what seems more promising. Moving towards a mirrorless from a DSLR probably takes time to get used to, but the device itself is already very much capable nowadays with advanced options from the prominent companies such as the new X T4 from Fujifilm and the EOS R6 from Canon.
Mirrorless is dominating the market from casual, entry-level products to the professional range so you can find the options in almost any price range or product level depending on what you want to achieve. The consumer level is a great start that bridges previous DSLR users or just enthusiasts who want to have a dedicated camera. They have interchangeable lens feature but are smaller and easier to bring in your travel. In most cases they are also using smaller sensors but this is why they can be so compact.
The prosumer level is in our opinion the most interesting place to find lots of new and capable cameras. The price point is still manageable for enthusiasts but also comes with the type of functionality and handling you can find on the higher end options. Usually they will have both EVF and rear LCD for composing the picture and this is great to get used to this new system if you have been using DSLRs only before. In terms of form factor they are still manageable too if you love to take pictures in different places.
The professional level is not as interesting since we have to consider the price too. This type of cameras regardless of the system will often come in either APS-C or full-frame and probably with high pixel count for the best details when you need to crop or print it. They also need a fast processor in order to help the autofocus performance as well as buffering when you shoot large files or burst sequences. They can be useful for video recording too, connected with external monitors and other hardware.

About Fujifilm X E4 and X T30
Having the freedom to choose whatever camera you want the most, there are plenty to consider out there. Since camera brands are not as many as other electronics, it is probably easier to shop based on the brand only, especially if you already find a system that you like which often varies among these companies. But, we do think it is wise to actually look into the device before investing in one since you may have things that you like or dislike about them.
Among those options, Fujfilm is one of the most prominent brands out there, similar to Sony or Nikon but this company seems to focus more on the APS-C section compared to some that also equally introduce new full-frames variants into their collection. In terms of choice, there are more than enough to consider from this brand based on what you want to achieve, how much you want to spend, or what type of camera you prefer better.
On the convenient side, we have Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 which we are sure most enthusiasts are already familiar with. These APS-C cameras are among the best in their price range and similar cameras from other brands yet they are not the same as well in comparison. What you will find identical from them is the core ability itself regarding the sensor and pixel but from the outside these cameras are probably for two different types of users.
The one is a rangefinder style and the other is your typical compact SLR which may help a lot in affecting your buying decision. It doesn’t mean the Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 are not interchangeable because they surely can yet, different people may want different types of handling and this is often neglected when buying a new camera. Personally we do think they are suitable for your casual shooting experience or to be your first camera, especially for those who are interested in photography. Read also: Fujifilm X E4 Vs X100V.
Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 Design
Before getting to know these brothers, let’s first see the styling of the two. As you can already guess, they will have different types of handling but even from the actual device, X E4 is overall wider yet thinner in comparison to X T30. This camera is measured at 121 x 73 x 33 mm while the latter is at 118 x 83 x 47 mm, and is slightly heavier than X E4. Besides the overall styling, we do think the grip is one of the prominent differences.
Being slightly thinner also makes the X E4 prefer to not put any built-in grip in the body which makes the camera more flush if you will mount different lenses. The X T30 doesn’t have a prominent grip as well but it is there. Both use EVF at different setup and they also have the same type of tilting screen which can’t be folded to 180 degree so no self-camera mode either. In addition, the type of control is kind of similar but we do think the X T30 has the more convenient setup.
Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 Specs
As for the most important part, both Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 are equally capable cameras. The X E4 is famous for being a street-photography option thanks to its simplicity that doesn’t remove the control of high-end cameras but, at the core X T30 is just another great alternative as well, especially if you are considering them for the growing number of Fujifilm’s lenses. Both cameras are the same APS-C, 26MP, and use the same X-Processor 4 as well.
Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 Image Quality
The image quality coming out of these cameras are impressive. Considering they use the same lens as well, the result will look the same and if you like the color science of Fujifilm or its plenty of shooting profile then you will love these cameras too. However, the continuous drive of X T30 is capable of capturing at 30fps instead of 20fps for the X E4 so the T30 will take slightly more photos before the buffer starts to fill in and then slow down.
Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 Autofocus
We also want to talk about the Autofocus on Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 since this is a necessary part to consider in almost any dedicated camera. Both have the same processor and should have the same amount of power to make the system work reliably. They are very similar to the T4 camera with the same number of focus points at 425 and good face detection ability. The touch-screen is also useful for when you need to pinpoint the focus when composing the picture.
Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 Video Recording
Next is for their video recording ability and again the two are very much the same here. They are probably not centered around this application but are still very much useful for various applications. They are recording at 4K30 or 24fps, have a dedicated microphone jack, but neglect the headphone port. The problem is probably there is no in-body image stabilization here so if your lens is not stabilized, none of them are great for handheld users.
In addition, they are not suitable for making long footage as well yet the X E4 is more reliable here as you can at least get 30 minutes of continuous recording time while for the T30 the maximum time for 1080p is only 15 minutes and 10 minutes when you shoot in 4K.
Fujifilm X E4 vs X T30
There are lots of amazing cameras out there and Fujifilm X E4 and X T30 are two of them. They are great options for casual users or almost any type or enthusiasts as long as sport photography is not the main focus for the device. In comparison they have the same level of image quality, have reliable AF system, and are easy to use on the go. The X T30 can capture slightly more photos at the same amount of time but the X E4 is more versatile for video recording.
The difference in handling can be a buying decision as well but both cameras are equally comfortable. In comparison however, we will recommend the X E4 because this is a more convenient system, and matches well with the shooting style if you will often travel with it.
